HOW TO DO SMOKEY EYES

How many of you have always wanted to create a smokey eye look but didn’t? I know people seem to be reluctant to attempt smokey eye because it looks hard to create. So, many women skip the sultry shadowy look. But for me if there’s one eye look that fascinates the most, is the “Smokey Eye”. Here, I will break down the techniques that will help you to achieve that perfect smokey eye. So, keep reading!

Step One: Prime the eyes

An eyeshadow primer would be great but the concealer also does the job. Apply an eyeshadow primer all over the eyelid and just set it with little bit of powder (you can use a light color matte eyeshadow or setting powder or face powder). An eyeshadow primer helps to lock down the shadow and provides crease-free finish while making the color more vibrant and proving a smoother application.

Step Two: Eyeshadow

You only need 3 colors for smokey eye – light brown (preferable warm or peachy tone), dark brown and black and make sure all the shades are matte. For the application you need two blending brush , one flat brush  and one pencil brush. With a blending brush take the light brown shade (this is the transition shade) and buff and blend it onto the crease and above (just below the brow bone). Taking the dark brown shade with another blending brush apply it onto the crease bringing it down to the eyelid (just a little bit) and blend, blend and blend. Blending is the key! Smokey eye needs lot of blending otherwise you won’t achieve that perfect look. Take the flat brush and pack the black color all over the lid and then with the blending brush take the dark brown shade and blend out the black shadow. You can also use some gel liner and apply it as a base to the black shadow (I skipped that because the shadow I used was very pigmented). I like to again pat the black shadow on the lid and blend again. Finish off by applying black eyeliner on the water line and apply the same dark and light brown shadow on the lower lash line and blend it with smaller pencil brush.

Step Three: Mascara

No smokey eye is complete without long, thick lashes! Curl your lashes and apply lots of mascara. Mascara opens your eyes so make sure you don’t skip this. If you want, finish your look with false lashes.

When doing smokey eye, I don’t like to highlight the inner corner of the eyes and the brow bone because I feel that takes the look away. To complete the look I applied Charlotte Tilbury lipstick in Super Cindy and Sugar Sugar lip gloss from Marc Jacobs.

Note: For the smokey eye, I recommend doing the eye makeup first before the base (primer, foundation, concealer) so that if you have any fallout or any mistake you can just wipe it clean. Do rest of your base and complete the lower lash line.
